So I accidentally watched Maniac Cop, instead of Maniac — which had been recommended to me for it’s Savininess. Maniac Cop has little if nothing to do with Tom Savini, but it’s an interesting (albeit cheesy 80’s) little film.
The thing I liked about it (aside from spotting a young Ron Eldard) was that despite the content, the film came off as quite serious, and for the most part it pulled it off. Politically, the film spoke to it’s location historically of a corrupt dismal New York City circa 1988. This film is about the misuse of power, of corruption of the system, and of late capitalism… and you thought it was about a rather large, disfigured and dead MANIAC COP! Bwahaha! little did you know…
Check it out if you have the time. It’s no great horror film, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
