Created by Laurie Finstad-Knizhnik and Adrienne Mitchell, DURHAM COUNTY tells the story of police officer Mike Sweeney (Hugh Dillon - HARD CORE LOGO, GINGER SNAPS 3) who has recently returned to Durham County, the place where he grew up. Recovering from the loss of his partner and dealing with his wife's recovery from what was expected to be a terminal case of breast cancer, Sweeney's move back to familiar territory as an attempt to help his family deal with things somewhat backfires.

Horror fans are bombarded with a barrage of remakes, adaptations and sequels. There was a time when it was more sequels than remakes but recent years has found the remake train going out of control. As much as I don't really like any of the remakes, I definitely despise the sequels.

Going into the festival 4BIA (See Prang) was definitely on my top three must see list. In my opinion, Asian horror films provide the best scares while weaving a great story. My only gripe is that sometimes they tend to have the weirdest endings.

There is something to be said about filmmakers who decides to pay homage to their favorite films by making movies in the exact same way. The people behind JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER were obviously raised on a diet of Sam Raimi, John Carpenter, Wes Craven and all of the other \"Masters of Horror\". And like Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro, they believe in keeping it real with prosthetic effects instead of the overdone and rarely good CGI that most new horror films have embraced.

The great quality of horror films is the versatility of the genre. Horror can be gory like HOSTEL or terrifying due to the unknown like witnessed in THE OTHERS. There are many fans of slasher flicks, but sometimes the horror is subtle and comes from within. Unbeknownst to myself, I wrote the last sentence without realizing that it's the perfect segway to discuss FROM WITHIN.

Fewer words, I imagine, strike greater fear in the minds of audiences and producers alike than "passion project". After helming three straight Saw sequels, long-suffering director Darren Lynn Bousman finally gets to cut loose creatively with his gory rock opera REPO!, which evolved from a series of quickie stage improvisations courtesy of the film's writer/composers Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich.

I had high expectations for THE CHASING WORLD. After watching the trailer, I was hoping that this movie would contain some cool scenes of parkour. Parkour is an activity involving moving from one point to another as quickly and efficiently as possible. In CASINO ROYALE, parkour was shown during the foot chase sequence involving the two cranes.

There was a time when I was much, much younger and the only books on my shelf were either written by Stephen King or Clive Barker. The King books were an inevitability, seeing how every young horror fan at birth already owns at least a myriad or two of his novels, but the Barker books were a later discovery that helped guide my imagination down a much darker path, where even the likes of King never dared to tread.

There’s a sort of conventional wisdom in the world of real estate that says it’s better to buy the worst house on a good block than the best house on a bad one. Álex De La Iglesia’s THE BABY'S ROOM (La habitación del niño) does well to prove otherwise in his contribution to TALES TO KEEP YOU AWAKE (Películas para no dormir).

Actually, everyone loves Mandy Lane (Amber Heard, in a low-key, believable performance) and is in some way obsessed with the Junior High School goddess that no one seems to be able to deflower. Yes, no boy is able to get with Mandy and it seems to be taking its toll on all these kids, from stoner Red, to jock Bird, to popular hunk Jake, to even Mandy's best friend Emmet.
