Not much for pure blood and guts storytelling, though Vindication has lots of severed arteries, Bart Mastronardi’s feature film debut focuses more on the troubles of its protagonist, Nicolas Bertram, a young man who has trouble finding himself in the world. After a failed suicide attempt, Nicolas’ worlds is shattered, his reality is no longer logical but now a twisted and disturbing journey of Nicolas’ discovery of his true self. Vindication is a stunningly visual and dramatic piece of horror filmmaking taking notes from classic motion pictures but is mainly inspired by Greek mythology, tragedy plays, Shakespeare, Dante’s Inferno and other classic forms of literature. Vindication prides itself as being an independent movie within the horror genre.
